About Us

The Red Snowshoe is our, (Renata Crowe and Dino Sharr) picturesque rural farm adjacent to the Slocan River. The property is approximately 5 acres of pasture housing our home, horses, goats, chickens and vegetable garden. The remaining 7 acres are wooded and merge into the surrounding forested mountains; a small creek (Tor Creek) roughly divides the acreage in two.

When planning our move to the Kootenays we had always wanted to incorporate some kind of guest accommodation, a place to allow travelers an opportunity to relax in private and enjoy the peace and quite of the surrounding nature.

At first we thought of the more conventional style of a Bed and Breakfast. But when we travelled we always sought out places to stay that are more private and unique, something unusual and fun.

One of the things that make the Kootenays so appealing is the stunning wilderness and one of the best ways to appreciate this is to camp. As our property backs onto this wilderness we decided to make the guest accommodation a large, luxurious, canvas tent named the ‘White tail’.

The ‘White Tail’ stands 9 feet tall and is erected on a raised wood platform 14 feet by 16 feet and has an additional covered screened porch. Furnished in traditional Canadiana style it includes a king sized bed and a wood burning stove. Being spacious, bright and airy the ‘White Tail’ offers a unique, private and very comfortable place to kick back and relax, surrounded by the very best that the BC Kootenays has to offer.

Close to hand is the ‘Wash House’, the ‘White Tail’s’ exclusive bathroom. Amenities include a hot shower over looking Tor Creek, wash basin and a no flush composting toilet. There is also a power receptacle for shavers and hairdryers or to plug in your battery charger. All soaps, shampoos and towels are provided. The water is from the well that supplies our home and is filtered and UV treated cool, sparkling clear and very drinkable.
