Things To Know

The White Tail is equipped with LED lanterns. There is no electricity to your tent. The wood stove in the White Tail is fully functional and if you wish to use the stove we will be happy to show you how. On the porch are some traditional oil lamps, feel free to use these, we'll be happy to show you how they work. For your comfort and safety please only use these oil lamps on your porch. We ask you not to use any naked flames inside your tent or on the porch.

The Wash House
does have power and a receptacle for rechargers, plug-in shavers and hairdryers etc. The shower is a propane hot water on demand system. Upon arrival we will show you how this functions. All water is from our well and is filtered and UV treated for safe consumption. The soaps are locally made. The toilet is a non flushing composting unit that converts your 'visits' into a rich loamy soil within 6 - 8 weeks. The trees will thank you.

The Swimming Hole is just a short stroll from the property, a great place to cool off during the long hot summer days. It's advisable to wear secure footwear to fully enjoy this secluded spot.

Wireless/Phone: At this time cellular service is unavailable in our area. If you need to use the phone you are welcome to use the house phone. High speed wireless internet is available.

Slocan Valley Co-op: A short distance from The Red Snowshoe (approx 4 km) is the Slocan Valley Co-op. The gas bar opens at 7:00 am and closes at 9:00 pm. The main store opens at 9:00 am and closes at 9:00 pm. Amenities include a Post Office, liquor and wine store with a great selection of organic wines, spirits, cold beer, groceries and fresh produce.

The Slocan River:
When you turn off Hwy 6 to reach The Red Snowshoe you'll cross the Slocan River, this is a popular spot to participate in the summer tradition of 'tubing' down the river. Whether you choose to float at a leisurely pace slung in a make shift inflatable or use kayaks, canoes or a dingy is entirely up to you, either way this is a great opportunity to soak up some rays and enjoy this beautiful river.

Adventure Motorcycling: The Kootenays, along with much of the province of BC, boasts some of the most spectacular motorcycling roads in North America. Destination Highway's
British Columbia riding guide rates many of their top rides within the Kootenay region and the Red Snowshoe is strategically placed to take full advantage of these incredible riding experiences. We are located on one of the super side trips routes of the famous Selkirk loop, a favorite of motorcyclists wanting to take a few days to savour these incredible scenic and technical rides.
